Did American Idol contestant Fantasia ever learn how to read?

I remember all the hype and drama that surrounded while while she was in and out of the runnings, and how it later came out that she was also illiterate or pretty much close to being unable to read. Has she ever got some help for this? I can't imagine how you can be an adult in America without picking up how to read at some point. I mean I could see this happening in some 3rd world country with not much of a school system or a country where girls are not allowed to attend school else they become educated and discover that they need not be treated like dirt by their countrymen, but not out here. I would think even the crappiest school district in the USA could still at least show a schoolkid how to read, ya know?
